ASTANA. May 26. ?I often hear national majority representatives saying that children of national minorities choose to receive education in the national majority's language which appears to be the success of integration. This tendency manifests voluntary will of the minorities to become assimilated, which is allowed by the international law. However it may also mean some form of discrimination?, Knut Vollebaek said. ?A school program which immerses children in an environment where their mother tongue is not used disturbs their intellectual and psychological development. The feeling of inferiority of their native language affects a child?s progress?, Knut Vollebaek emphasized. Vice Minister of Justice Dulat Kustavletov, Vice Chairman of the People?s Assembly of Kazakhstan Yeraly Tugzhanov, Parliament deputies, representatives of ministries and state bodies also took part in the seminar. The event was organized by the Kazakh Ministry of Justice jointly with the OSCE Office in Kazakhstan.
