Minister Vladimir Yastrebchak said Bolat Nurgaliyev from Kazakhstan, which holds the 2010 rotating chair in the OSCE, will discuss a wide range of issues connected with the conflict settlement between Moldova and Transdnestr as well as the implementation of the earlier reached agreements.

He added that Nurgaliyev is also expected to discuss bilateral cooperation between Transdnestr and the OSCE.

The Russian-speaking province of Transdnestr has maintained de facto independence from Moldova since a brief war in 1992, which was the culmination of tensions following the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Russia has had peacekeepers in the region since July 1992, and the negotiation process has been frozen since February 2006.

Russia, Ukraine and the OSCE are mediators in the conflict, and the European Union and the United States are observers. Kazinform cites RIA Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru
