SHKEK. October 8. KAZINFORM /Arnur Rakhymbekov/ The ODIHR/OSCE mission has presented the first interim report on the situation in Kyrgyzstan on the eve of the presidential elections.
The OSCE representatives noted that there is no legitimate basis for restricting broadcasting of foreign mass media during the election campaign in Kyrgyzstan. The Kyrgyz authorities decided to prohibit the broadcasting of foreign television channels live on the territory of the country before the date of presidential elections - October 30. The Kazakh media are also banned.
The OSCE experts note that "broadcast media continue to remain in Kyrgyzstan the main sources of information for citizens, including information about the electoral process."
