OSCE Chairman-in-Office welcomes resumption of Chisinau-Odessa train route via Transnistria
ASTANA. October 1. KAZINFORM OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Secretary of State and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev has welcomed the resumption of passenger traffic on the Chisinau-Odessa train route via Transnistria from October 1, 2010.
A positive factor in reaching agreement on this issue was the European Union's support. The efforts of the international mediators, successful interaction within the framework of Transnistria 5-plus-2 negotiations helped start dialogue between the conflicting parties to resolve the practical problems of the population on both banks of the Dniester River.
The current year is marked by regular consultations at various levels and activation of joint expert groups of the parties on confidence measures. This will undoubtedly promote long-term and comprehensive political regulation of the Transnistria problem.
In this context the OSCE Chairman called on all the participants of the 5-plus-2 talks to intensify work in light of preparation of agenda of the coming OSCE Summit in Astana.
