OSCE and UN effectively interact on many topical issues - K. Abdrakhmanov

VIENNA. April 9. KAZINFORM. /Timur Bekturganov/ The OSCE and the UN interact effectively on a wide range of topical international issues. So Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the OSCE Kairat Abdrakhmanov assessed the level of cooperation between the two organizations while opening a special session of the OSCE Permanent Council with the participation of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Vienna yesterday, April 8.

"Being one of the largest and sophisticated organizations on the issues of security the OSCE provides effective assistance to the UN in Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian regions. Our missions actively cooperate in South-Eastern and Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia states", K. Abdrakhmanov noted.

He emphasized close cooperation of the two organizations within the framework of international efforts on settlement of the Afghanistan situation and called the Corfu Process a unique opportunity to strengthen and develop further cooperation.

According to experts, Mr. Ban Ki-moon' participation in the session is a truly historic event and one of the positive aspects of Kazakhstan's chairmanship. Last time UN Secretary-General (Kofi Annan) took part in the OSCE Permanent Council's sitting in 1999.
