Operator of Belarusian nuclear power plant chosen

MINSK. March 31. KAZINFORM The organization to operate the future Belarusian nuclear power plant has been determined. The press service of the President of Belarus told BelTA, Alexander Lukashenko signed decree No 124 "Measures to execute international treaties in the area of civil liability for nuclear damage" on 29 March; Kazinform refers to BelTA.

The document is supposed to make sure that Belarus fulfils the obligations it has undertaken in this area.

The decree has put government agencies in charge of fulfilling the 1963 Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage and the 1997 Protocol to Amend the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage. The decree has also determined which government agency will operate the future nuclear power plant and the existing nuclear installations of the United Energy and Nuclear Research Institute Sosny of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
