One of Central Tien-Shan peaks to be named in honor of Astana

ALMATY. July 3. KAZINFORM /Yekaterina Ionova / The Kazakhstan alpinists team headed by Chairman of Tabigat Ecological Union Mels Eleussizov climbed to an unnamed peak of the Central Tien-Shan on July 1, 2010. It was decided to name the peak "Astana" in honor of the Kazakhstan Capital's Day. Mels Eleussizov has said it at a press conference in Almaty today.

Famous Kazakh climbers - Maksut Zhumayev, Alexander Sofrygin, Alexander Rudakov, Vassily Pivtsov, Yerzhan Zhabilev, Oleg Shchukin - took part in the expedition.

According to Mels Eleussizov, they have chosen the most accessible peak, height of which is 4,555 m. It can be climbed by any person with minimal training.

"We plan to climb this peak again in August and erect a memorial plaque there", the Chairman of the Ecological Union stressed.
