Olympic boxing: Panama's Bylon beats Kazakhstan's Khalzova in Round of 16

Kazakhstani Valentina Khalzova faced  Atheyna Bylon from Panama in the  Round of 16 fight of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Kazinform reports with reference to Olympic.kz.

Unfortunately, Khalzonva, who fights in women's 75kg, was defeated by Bylon and failed to reach the quarterfinal.

The bout ended 4:1 in favor of Atheyna Bylon

Valentina Khalzova, born 1997, is a native of Astana. She is a gold medalist of the 2016 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships.

Earlier, Makhmud Sabyrkhan (57 kg), Aslanbek Shymbergenov and Kamshybek Kunkabayev (+92 kg), who were believed to be the medal contenders in their weight categories, were eliminated at the start of the 2024 Summer Olympics Games in Paris.

Four boxers advanced to the quarterfinals -  Saken Bibossinov (51 kg), Mukhammedsabyr Bazarbay (63.5 kg), Nurbek Oralbay (80 kg) and Aibek Oralbay (92 kg).  

As for women boxers,  Nazym Kyzaibay (50 kg) is in the Round of 16, while Karina Ibragimova (57 kg) has not competed yet.
