Obama discusses election, says he's underdog in 2012 presidential election
WASHINGTON. October 4. KAZINFORM U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday discussed next presidential election, saying he is, again, the underdog as new poll results indicate majority of Americans expect a Republican victory in the election in 2012; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
Obama made the remarks in a one-on-one interview session with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, which was streamed live on the web. He said the next election will be about who the voters believe shares their vision for the future, and the American people still back his approach.
Obama, whose public approval ratings holds steady at the low 40 percent range, admitted people are not better off than they were four years ago, and the unemployment rate is still too high.
"They're not better off than they were before (investment bank) Lehman's collapse, before the financial crisis, before this extraordinary recession that we're going through," said Obama, but he believes his administration has made "steady progress to stabilize the economy."
According to results of a new Washington Post-ABC News poll released Monday, 55 percent of those polled expect Republican party to retake control of the White House next year, while only 37 percent expect Obama to win a second term.
