O.Suleimenov suggested UNESCO establishing World Fund for Assistance to Nuclear Tests Victims
ANA. August 26. KAZINFORM /Serik Sabekov/ Olzhas Suleimenov suggested the UN to establish World Fund for Assistance to Nuclear Tests Victims.
He made this proposal at the conference devoted to the International Day against Nuclear Tests in Astana on Thursday.
"Kazakhstan alone can hardly cope with this job. In this regard, today we would like to suggest the UN to set about establishment of the World Fund for Assistance to Nuclear Tests Victims of both Semipalatinsk and all countries where such tests have been ever held", Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the UNESCO O.Suleimenov said.
According to him, the money saved during 20 years of functioning of the international nuclear test ban could be used as a basis of the Fund. As O.Suleimenov noted, over a thousand explosions have not been held during this time. Due to it milliards of dollars of the Nuclear Club member states were saved.
