Number of restaurants grows in Kazakhstan

The number of food and drink venues in Kazakhstan is increasing. In 2023, there were 15,826 registered eateries, representing a 4.5% increase compared to 2022 (15,146 units), Kazinform News Agency cites the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The expansion of the restaurant sector is particularly noteworthy, with the number of eating establishments reaching 2,303 in 2023, an increase from 2,106 in the previous year. The dining industry also demonstrated growth, with the number of establishments rising from 4,752 to 5,383.
In contrast to the expansion of restaurant and canteen outlets, the number of cafés has exhibited a decline, with the total number of units falling from 5,016 in 2022 to 4,479 in 2023.
In terms of regions, the highest concentration of restaurants is reported in Astana (400 units), Almaty (351 units) and the Turkistan region (213 units). In terms of number of cafés, the largest numbers are registered in Almaty (508 units), Astana (385 units) and the Karaganda region (464 units).
The total value of catering services provided in 2023 stood at 1.1 trillion tenge, representing an increase of 11.9% compared to 2022.
