Number of foreign tourists in Egypt rises 59.6 per cent over past 10 years
Egypt is strengthening its global competitiveness by showcasing the country's unique heritage and expanding promotional efforts to attract new markets, TV BRICS reports.
According to Daily News Egypt, the country recognises tourism as an important economic activity and is actively implementing a National Tourism Development Strategy to maximise its potential.
Investment support, including partnerships with the private sector and the provision of various incentives, has also been prioritised. These measures have led to international recognition and an increase in Egypt's tourism ranking as a top travel destination.
According to a report published by the Egyptian Cabinet Media Centre, Egypt has been recognised as one of the world's most diverse tourist destinations. The report presents the performance of the tourism sector both domestically and internationally. Domestic tourism revenues have more than doubled, reaching US$15.3 billion in 2024, up from US$7.2 billion in 2014. In addition, the number of international tourists increased by 59.6 per cent to 15.8 million in 2024, up from 9.9 million in 2014. The goal is to attract 30 million tourists by 2032.
On the international stage, Egypt improved its position by 22 positions in the Travel and Tourism Development Index, ranking 61st in 2024 compared to 83rd in 2015, according to the World Economic Forum.
Earlier it was reported that Egypt has emerged as the top African country in fixed internet speed, a milestone attributed to the government's ongoing digital transformation and infrastructure development.
