He also noted that North Korea is ready to fulfill the agreements seeking for a nuclear-free status of the Korean Peninsula "on the principles of synchronized actions" under the joint statement, which the parties to the six-way negotiations issued on September 19, 2005. The diplomat commented the results of the recent New York two-day negotiations between North Korean First Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Kae-gwan with US special envoy for North Korea Stephen Bosworth.

"In New York the negotiators discussed in the constructive way the issues related with better relations between North Korea and the United States, stability of the Korean Peninsula and the resumption of six-party talks," the spokesman told KCNA.

"Both sides confirmed that better bilateral relations and a peaceful solution to the problem for a nuclear-free status of the Korean Peninsula meet the interests of the countries and they agreed to continue the talks," he added.

The six-party negotiations, involving Russia, China, the US, Japan and both Koreas over the nuclear problem on the Korean Peninsula are held with long intervals in Beijing since August 27, 2003. North Korea quitted their sixth round on September 30, 2007.
