Nikkei slumps to 28-year low

TOKYO. June 4. KAZINFORM Nikkei slumped to a 28-year low on Monday with the topic index sending below 200 for the first time since December 1983 amid growing concerns over the global economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 144.62 points, or 1.71 percent, from Friday at 8,295.63, its lowest closing mark since Nov. 28, 2011. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 13.42 points, or 1.89 percent, lower at 695.51, breaking through the threshold of 700 for the first time in almost 30 years, Xinhua reports.

The turnover was about 1,485 billion yen (about 19.00 billion U. S.dollars).
