New ‘sleepy sickness’ cases in Kalachi village

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - New cases of Encephalopathy of unfamiliar etiology, so called s "sleeping sickness", have been registered in the village of Kalachi, Yesil district, Akmola region.

According to the chief physician of Yesil district hospital Kabdrashit Almagambetov, on August 28 six people, aged from 14 to 70, were admitted to the hospital. Three of them got sick again. All the people had the same symptoms including sleep up to 14 hours, memory loss, and hallucinations. The symptoms appeared after rainy and windy weather. The cause of the sickness has not yet figured out. Currently, all patients are in the therapeutic unit of the district hospital. Doctors said that ill persons are in stable condition. The last case of "sleeping sickness" was registered on May 1, the number of patients was 45. Today, the number of ill has already reached 61.
