New Kyrgyz draft constitution to be presented on Monday
Moscow. April 17. KAZINFORM The Kyrgyz interim government will present on Monday a new draft constitution for public consultation, interim Deputy Prime Minister Omurbek Tekebayev said at a civil society forum on Saturday; Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
"Above all, we will offer a parliamentary form of government with restrictions on a political monopoly. The number of deputies in parliament from a single party will not exceed 50," Tekebayev told the news agency 24.kg.
Tekebayev said the Central Election Commission would also be reformed.
"We want a third of places in it [the commission] to be made up of civil society, a third to be made up of UN mandates another third to be made up of political parties. Elections will be carried out by the people, not the government, and they will be honest and transparent."
He confirmed that a referendum on the new constitution would take place in July and parliamentary and presidential elections would follow; Kazinform cites RIA Novosti.
