New generating capacity launched in Karaganda region
AGANDA. October 9. KAZINFORM /Valentina Yelizarova/ A meeting connected with the launch of the new turbine generator with the capacity of 55 mWt has taken place today at Karaganda GRES-2 of 'Kazakhmys Corporation' LLP.
Mayor of Karaganda region Nurlan Nigmatullin having congratulated the company and its staff on the successful implementation of the large project named the event as the significant one "not for the region as a whole but also for all the power system of the country".
"New generating capacity is implemented for the first time in the regions during last years", - N. Nigmatullin underlined. "This is a concrete discharge of the President's commission on the industrialization enforcement of the country and development of the power economy".
Chairman of the Board of Directors of 'Kazakhmys Corporation' Eduard Ogai assured that the company intends to invest the energy sector. "Purchase of the new turbine generator is the part of the investment program on modernization of our enterprises in Kazakhstan. Each citizen of Kazakhstan understands the importance of this activity as we are need in strong power economy in order to improve the living standards and promote development of power economy of the country", - he said.
According to him the launch of the new turbine will let reduce power deficit in the region. The cost of the project amounted to USD 23 mln. The generator has an air cooling system which replaced the existing hydrogen system that let provide safety of work at the station.
Karaganda GRES-2 is situated at the 3 km of Tolpar village, Karaganda region. The construction of the station was started in 1954. The first turbine generator was put into operation in 1962 whereas the last one was launched in 1968. The station enters the United Power Grid of Kazakhstan.
