New details known in the case of drug smuggling from China to Kazakhstan

BEIJING. February 23. KAZINFORM - Some new details on charges of drug smuggling from China to Kazakhstan have been learned.

"Xinjiang Dushibao" newspaper has an article under the headline "Police officers of Zimunai county uncovered the first case of drug smuggling" describing some of the investigation details.

According to the sources in the police, as a result of operational activities having lasted for one month, the officers of the peoples' police at the Zimunai county, Altai district, the drug consignment intended for transfer to Kazakhstan through "Zimunai" checkpoint has been seized. During the operation 5.37 kilograms of marijuana were taken away and three suspects were arrested; two of them appeared to be citizens of Kazakhstan. They are under arrest.

According to the newspaper, mid December 2012 the Zimunai county's public security department received the information that certain persons were planning to smuggle a drug consignment through "Zimunai" checkpoint.

It was found that early January a citizen of China A. was to sell 5.37 kg of marijuana to a Kazakhstan citizen M. for 36 thousand yuan and take responsibility for transportation of drugs across the border.

January 24 the criminal police on the transaction spot in "Mustang" business center arrested two citizens of Kazakhstan K. and W. and a citizen of China A. as well as seized 5.37 kg of drugs.

Citizen of Kazakhstan W. turned out to move drugs from China to Kazakhstan through "Zimunai" checkpoint for 300 US dollars. Another citizen of Kazakhstan K. had to receive them and give them to a citizen of Kazakhstan M.

During the interrogation it has also become known that the consignment of drugs was bought by a citizen of China in Urumqi. The drug dealer in that city has been arrested and is currently in custody. According to the analysis carried out by the Examining Division of Public Security Directorate, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the drugs taken away are marijuana.
