Necessary to give market economy status to Kazakhstan as soon as possible - EU High Commissioner

BRUSSELS. January 27. KAZINFORM /Yerzhan Ospanov/ Kazakhstan needs a status of a market-economy country as soon as possible. High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton made it public at a meeting with Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Secretary of State-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev in Brussels.

Having noted Kazakhstan's role in ensuring security in Europe and entire world C. Ashton announced her intention to visit our country in the nearest future. She also highlighted the necessity of giving the status of a market-economy country to Kazakhstan in view of our success in socio-political and socio-economic development. As is known, this status of the Kazakhstan was confirmed by the USA in 2002.

State and prospects of political and trade-economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU were discussed at the meeting.

The parties noted importance of holding active talks on concluding a new agreement on partnership and cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU in order to raise it to a brand new level.

In addition, the meeting focused on priorities of Kazakhstan's OSCE chairmanship. In this view, the EU expressed interest in cooperation with Kazakhstan in this period.
