Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools graduates to pass Cambridge test on four subjects

ASTANA. August 31. KAZINFORM The graduates of the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools will have to pass a Cambridge test on four major subjects this academic year, Director of the Department for Education Quality Assessment "Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools" JSC Olga Mozhayeva said in the interview for Pm.kz.

"We have begun preparation for the final tests of the graduates of independent education organizations. Moreover, the students will have to pass a Cambridge test on four major subjects in 2012-2013 academic year," O. Mozhayeva said.

Besides, she informed that a system of competitive selection would be tested in September. It will differ in terms of its focus, its tasks will be aimed at the ability of students to apply knowledge and it has a threshold level for each subject. In the context of language subjects, the tasks will be aimed at the ability of a student to work with a test and the threshold level for receiving grants is to be set after processing of statistical information.  

Besides, a new system of monitoring of academic achievement developed jointly with the Dutch National Institute for Educational Measurement (CITO). This system will allow to create a scale of school students abilities having the results of each child which is to give a teacher an opportunity to see individual achievements of a child, his progress and problematic issues in education.

Olga Mazhayeva added that it was planned jointly with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth to conduct psychometric assessment of mathematical abilities of children.

According to her, the model which is being introduced is called on to ensure intellectual growth of children.

"The assessment model is an important part of the integrated education program of the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools and our task is build such an assessment system which would help a student from the very beginning to the end ensuring intellectual progress and high results of scientific achievements," she added.
