NATO ready to cooperate with Kazakhstan in science, public diplomacy
BRUSSELS. February 17. KAZINFORM /Yerzhan Ospanov/ Kazakh Ambassador to Belgium and Luxemburg, Head of the Kazakh Representation to NATO and European Union Serik Utembayev has met with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy Jean-François Bureau today in Brussels.
The sides discussed state and prospects of the development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and NATO and extension of opportunities of programs "Science for Peace", "Partnership for Peace" and issues of realization of joint projects in the field of modern technologies and innovations.
J.Bureau expressed interest in interaction on the issues connected with the common goal of the world community - stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan. He stressed the expediency of the joint work in the field of border management, struggle against drug trafficking, arms trade using the advanced experience and technologies.
The interlocutors spoke for signing of special document on partnership in the research and science fields between Kazakhstan and NATO. According to J.Bureau, such document wil allow to promote the cooperation. He also expressed readiness of the Alliance to hold joint seminars, conferences and presentations with Kazakhstan.
The Kazakh Ambassador stressed the importance of meeting of OSCE Chairman-in-office, Kazakh Secretary of State - Foreign minister Kanat Saudabayev with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen held in January this year and the necessity of regular contacts for continuation of political and practical dialogue.
The parties also discussed the issues of cooperation in the field of education. Appraising the contribution of Kazakhstan in form of allocation of USD 50 mln or education of Afghan students, J.Bureau expressed readiness to provide Kazakhstan with opportunities to use the potential of the Alliance in continuation of such training programs in NATO schools.
