Nationwide push: Kyrgyzstan converts 66,000 ha to organic farming

Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to organic agriculture continues to gain momentum, with more than 66,000 hectares of land converted to organic production as of June 1, 2026, TV BRICS reports.

The figures were shared at a science to practice conference in Karakol focus on advancing organic farming and positioning the Issyk-Kul region as the country’s first fully organic territory.

The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry emphasized that organic farming is a strategic priority in modernizing the agricultural sector. Current initiatives include strengthening the regulatory framework, improving certification systems, developing organic seed production, and fostering greater cooperation among producers.

Issyk-Kul has been identified as the pilot region for this transformation, with the project expected to drive the expansion of environmentally sustainable agriculture nationwide.

Officials noted that the continued growth of organic production will not only enhance Kyrgyzstan’s competitiveness and sustainability but also reinforce its standing in the international organic products market.

Earlier, it was reported that the World Bank had allocated $50 million in grants to Kyrgyzstan to support the country’s transition to green energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
