N.Nazarbayev entrusts special organs to sort out the situation with ‘Saryarka’ SEZ

KARAGANDA. KAZINFORM - President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has instructed special organs to sort out the situation with "Saryarka" special economic zone in Karaganda region.

"In 2011, Government supported the region in establishing ‘Saryarka' SEZ. There were allocated KZT 25 billion. For its part the city administration promised to attract KZT 150 billion of private investment and bring the production volume to KZT 800 billion per year", recalled the Head of State at a meeting with members of the public and businesses of the region. According to the plan, 53 plants should operate in the SEZ, while in fact only 2 plants are on stream. Regional Deputy Governor Anuar Ahmetzhanov noted that SEZ have attracted KZT 6 billion of investment. "In 2012 we actively started the construction of infrastructure. This year all facilities will be commissioned. We will step up work plans", said A.Ahmetzhanov. "I have been told that there has been established a management company "Karaganda Invest". 49% of its shares were given by the city administration to a company called Total Quality Service which has never been involved in such projects. Its activity was trade of food products", he said. President instructed special organs to sort out the situation. As Kazinform previously reported, on August 30 President Nursultan Nazarbayev paid a working visit to Karaganda region. The Head of State held a meeting with leading athletes of the region, visited SEZ Saryarka and had a round table with the public and businesses. In the evening Nazarbayev took part in the festivities dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the city of Karaganda and the Miner's Day.
