Museum of Peace unveiled in Semey

UST-KAMENOGORSK. KAZINFORM - The X Annual International Conference themed Ecology, Radiation. Health has kicked off at the State Medical University in Semey today.

The event brought together leading scientists from Kazakhstan, Russia and Japan who are to discuss the relevant issues of radioecology and security as well as preventive care, treatment and rehabilitation of population residing in ecologically troubled territories. Reps of Kazakhstan's Healthcare Ministry, national laboratories, prevention and treatment facilities, municipal and regional akimats (administrations), and research centers are also expected to participate. The State Medical University is set to sign a memo on creation of the consortium with Cambridge and Barnaul universities as well as Korean and Japanese partners to work together in the field of rehabilitation of victims of nuclear tests and perform joint research. In addition, the Museum of Peace was unveiled within the framework of the conference. Yasuyoshi Komizo, the Secretary General of Mayors for Peace international organization, participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the opening of the museum to the general public. The museum's exhibition showcases photos and children's drawings, books and gifts from foreign guests related to the shutdown of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site and atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
