Monument to Abay Kunanbayev opened in Astana

ANA. June 19. KAZINFORM /Murat Zhakeyev/ An opening ceremony of a monument to great Kazakh poet and thinker Abay Kunanbayev has been held in Astana on Saturday, June 19.
As Senate Speaker Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted in a welcoming speech, Abay's creativity is embodiment of the past and present: his words are immortal, and the heritage which he left to descendants will be present to people's mind for many centuries.
"Abay's The Book of Words was translated into many languages and are relevant to the present day. Today the whole world comprehends wisdom and beauty of words of the great Kazakh poet. The 150th anniversary of Abay will be celebrated under the auspices of the UNESCO", K.Tokayev said.
