Measles incidence among children in decline in Astana

The city of Astana sees decline in measles cases in children, while reports growth in adults, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

The Kazakh capital has recorded 1,890 primary cases and 532 confirmed cases of measles, including 381 cases in children under 14, since the beginning of January.

According to Sarkhat Beissenova, chief health officer of the city, those unvaccinated account for 68% of the cases, thus contributing to the spread of the disease.

She said that there has been decrease in measles cases among children under two years compared to last December.

As she said, the measles incidence rate among children under one year has been down 15% from 692.7 to 589.4, children aged one 8.5% from 880.2 to 805.3 and children aged two 21.3% from 701.6 to 551.9.

Measles cases among adults have risen 37.3% from 25.2 to 40.2, she noted.
