Maternal mortality decreases by 35% over past three years, Tokayev

At today’s ceremony marking Medical Worker’s Day, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev outlined key progress in the country’s healthcare system, Qazinform News Agency reports.

He emphasized the country’s life expectancy has risen to nearly 76 years last year. Maternal mortality decreased by 35% over the past three years, while infant mortality dropped by 24%, reaching the lowest levels since independence.

For the past seven years, nearly 1,300 healthcare facilities have been built countrywide.

The Head of State noted the health insurance system has been modernized to meet contemporary needs.

Earlier, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that “health is the greatest wealth” and that the development of healthcare is a strategic priority for the state.
