Many killed in clashes near Cote d'Ivoire's presidential home
ABIDJAN. April 7. KAZINFORM Fighting between pro-Ouattara and pro-Gbagbo forces around the residence of Cote d'Ivoire's embattled President Laurent Gbagbo has left many people dead and several others injured; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
Inhabitants living in a nearby building affirmed having seen several lifeless bodies of pro-Ouattara forces in the zone between Riviera suburb and Cocody suburb.
"We have seen 5 bodies lying on the ground and others were spread along the road," the inhabitants added.
In their opinion, the death toll might higher but they cannot go further into the streets to see other victims.
"Certainly there are more people who died on the other side as well because the clashes have been very violent," one of the residents said in reference to the side of pro-Gbagbo soldiers who were in the president's compound which was assaulted by pro- Ouattara soldiers.
Cote d'Ivoire is currently going through a tense moment after the failure of negotiations to ensure that Gbagbo leaves power peacefully.
On Wednesday, the republican forces (pro-Ouattara) launched the 'final assault' on the bunker within the residence of Cote d'Ivoire's embattled President Gbagbo with a view of smoking him out; Kazinform cites Xinhua.
