Manual on implementation of Aarhus Convention presented in Ust Kamenogorsk

ANA. September 17. KAZINFORM. A presentation of a manual for Kazakhstan's judges on the implementation of the Aarhus Convention developed by the Supreme Court with support of the OSCE Center was held in Ust Kamenogorsk; the Supreme Court's press office told Kazinform.

The Supreme Court of Kazakhstan in association with the OSCE Center in Astana held a training for judges and nongovernmental organizations on the implementation of the provisions of the Aarhus Convention and national ecological legislation. Head of the OSCE Center Alexander Kelchevsky, judge of the Supreme Court Vladimir Borissov, Senior Assistant of Economy and Ecology Department of the OSCE Center Zarina Ligai, OSCE expert Vadim Ni and others took part in the training.

Analogous trainings were held in all regions of Kazakhstan. A wide array of topics in the sphere of environmental protection was discussed.

On the threshold of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE in 2010 the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan intends to continue work in this direction.  

The Aarhus Convention was signed on June 25, 1998 in the Danish city of Aarhus. It is aimed at public participation in environmental protection.
