Majilismen make amendments to Penal Execution Code
ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Majilismen have made amendments to the Penal Execution Code aimed at protecting the rights of the convicted, this has been announced by the Vice-Minister of Internal Affairs Amantay Kurenbekov introducing the draft of the new Penal Execution Code (PEC) at a meeting of the executive committee of the Majilis on legislation and judicial reform.
"PEC draft was amended to include provisions on prisoners' rights to personal and health safety, to social and pension benefits in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan, to partaking in cultural and sporting events", said A.Kurenbekov.
According to him, the amendments made by the deputies provide that the convict should not be subjected to any punishments for requests and complaints. A number of amendments introduced in the rules on public control, on the possibility of confidentiality of personal reception by members of public monitoring committees and national preventive mechanism. In addition, there is a possibility for convicts to study in higher and secondary special educational institutions located elsewhere, with mandatory registration of the prisoner in the probation service at the location of the educational institution.
