Majilismen discussed amendments to Treaty on Allied Relations between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan
ASTANA. January 12. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ Draft Law "On ratification of the Protocol on amendments to the Treaty on Allied Relations between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan as of December 25, 2003" has been discussed today at the session of the Majilis Committee for Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security.
Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Nurlan Yermekbayev noted that the necessity of amendments to the Treaty is due to several reasons. Firstly, the Treaty provides adoption of the Action Plan on economic integration. The duration of the Treaty is unlimited but the Plan is designed for 2004-2007. Secondly, the old title - the Action Plan on Economic Integration - does not correspond to the current cooperation level between the countries. It is too early to speak about the integration in full sense of the word.
In this regard, the Protocol signed by the heads of the states on April 17, 2008 provides changing of the title into "Action Plan on Cooperation".
