M7.4 quake in Guatemala leaves 48 dead, 100 missing
LOS ANGELES. November 8. KAZINFORM A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Wednesday morning off the Pacific coast of Guatemala, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The Associated Press said 48 people were crushed to death under collapsed buildings in the country's southwestern region close to the Mexican border. President Otto Perez Molina said 155 people were injured, after earlier telling a news conference that 15 people had been buried alive and around 100 people were missing, Kyodo reports.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said a 7-centimeter wave was observed on the Pacific coast of El Salvador neighboring Guatemala. The Japan Meteorological Agency said there will be no tsunami impact on Japan.
