Leaders of seven parties cast ballots in the first elections to Qurultay

The leaders of all seven political parties have cast their ballots in Kazakhstan's first-ever Qurultay elections, Qazinform News Agency reports.

Aibek Dadebay, Chairman of the Adilet Party, was the first to arrive at his polling station.

Next was Kairat Aituganov, Chairman of Auyl. He voted at polling station No. 83 in Astana.

"I have fulfilled my civic duty by voting for Kazakhstan's future. Today is a great day. A day when Kazakhstan has taken a new direction. I believe this is a very crucial moment and that this day will mark the beginning of prosperity for Kazakhstan's future," he said.

Nursultan Shokanov, Chairman of the People's Party of Kazakhstan, voted at a polling station located at the National Academic Library.

"Today we are truly in a festive mood. It's a very important day. Its significance cannot be overstated. I think that regardless of today's results, all Kazakhstanis will benefit," Shokanov said.

Azamatkhan Amirtayev, Chairman of Baytaq, highlighted the significance of the day in the country's history.

"Today is a historic day. For the first time in the country's history, we are electing the Qurultay. This is a concrete step in the political reforms initiated by the President. I came here as a voter. My vote is equal to that of every person standing in this line. That is what today is all about," he said.

The Chairman of the Nationwide Social Democratic Party, Askhat Rakhimzhanov, voted at polling station No. 332.

"The long-awaited day has arrived. Much has been said about this day. We have all been waiting for it. A new representative body – the Qurultay – is being created today. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate all Kazakhstanis. This day will remain in history. In a few hours, today itself will become history," Rakhimzhanov said.

Aidarbek Khojanazarov, Chairman of Respublica, voted at polling station No. 256 at School-Lyceum No. 101 in Astana.

"The first elections to the Qurultay are of special historical significance in the annals of independence. We are at the dawn of an important step that will shape the country's future. Together with the President and the people, we are writing a new history. Kazakhstan is entering a new era. May the era of a strong, progressive, and just Kazakhstan begin. May this step be blessed for our country," he said.

Daniya Yespayeva, Chairperson of the Ak Zhol Democratic Party, also called today an important milestone in the history of the country.

"I think today is a great celebration for the people of Kazakhstan. For the first time in our history, elections to the Qurultay are being held. I believe our people will show their proactive attitude, come to the polls, and make their choice," Yespayeva said.

As it was reported, Kazakhstan's first-ever elections for deputies of the country's new unicameral Qurultay began on August 23. Polling stations opened across the country, with voting set to continue until 8:00 p.m.

Kazakhstanis are voting for one of seven political parties participating in the elections. Following the vote, seats in the Qurultay will be distributed among the parties that surpass the legally established threshold.
