Leaders of all CIS countries to attend Ashgabat summit
MINSK. November 14. KAZINFORM It is expected that the CIS Council of the Heads of State will meet in Ashkhabad (Turkmenistan) at a full strength, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee told BelTA with reference to Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee - Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev.
On 12 November the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee took part in the meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Representatives. Among the issues on the agenda of the meeting were the preparations for the meetings of the CIS Ministerial Council and the CIS Council of Heads of State on 4 and 5 December respectively. Sergei Lebedev said that all heads of the CIS member states are expected to attend the summit in Ashgabat, BelTA reports.
First of all, the heads of state are set to discuss a draft statement for the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. "The text of the statement has been agreed with representatives of the states. It stresses the importance of the upcoming event and focuses on the preparation of a series of commemorative events," Sergei Lebedev said.
The CIS summit will take a final decision on Belarus' chairmanship in the CIS in 2013. "Belarus will assume the CIS chairmanship next year. I am sure that the country will do well," said Sergei Lebedev.
Chairman of the IPA Council, head of the Council Federation of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko will present a report on the activities of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly to strengthen the integration within the CIS.
The Ashgabat summit is expected to make a decision on declaring the year 2013 in the Commonwealth of Independent States as the year of environmental culture and the environment. A number of issues on the summit agenda deals with the security, border cooperation, the joint air defense system, said Sergei Lebedev.
