Latvia, Azerbaijan sign agreements on cooperation
RIGA. January 17. KAZINFORM Agreements on cooperation in the field of preventing emergency situations and on mutual administrative assistance and exchange of tax information were signed here Monday in the course of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Latvia.
The agreement on prevention of emergencies was signed by the Azerbaijani Minister for Emergency Situations, Kamaladdin Heydarov, and the Latvian Interior Minister, Linda Murniece. The Interior Ministry said in a press release the document is expected to help the appropriate agencies of both countries to render efficacious aid to both countries' citizens in cases of disasters.
Murniece received an invitation to visit Azerbaijan so as to expand cooperation with other agencies and departments reporting to the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry.
The agreement on cooperation in the field of taxes was signed by the Azerbaijani Tax Minister, Fazil Mamedov, and the Director General of the Latvian Taxation Service, Nelli Yezdakova.
Also Monday, Mamedov had a meeting with Latvia's Finance Minister Andris Vilks, the press service of the Finance Ministry said.
In the course of negotiations, the two ministers discussed their countries' taxation policies, the shadow economy problems, the priority guidelines for tax administration, and cooperation at large.
"The Latvian Finance Ministry has two main priorities in the field of taxation -- the slashing of the volumes of shadow economy and improvement of the environment for business through cutting down the administrative expenses," Vilks was quoted as saying during the meeting, Kazinform cites ITAR-TASS.
