Kyrgyzstan proposes U.S. to launch direct flights
Deputy Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurbek Sydygaliev met with Ambassador of the United States of America to Kyrgyzstan Lesslie Viguerie, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported, Kabar reports.
Nurbek Sydygaliev outlined a number of issues in the areas of strengthening political dialog, expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation, strengthening trade and economic ties between Kyrgyzstan and the United States.
“Kyrgyzstan is interested in attracting U.S. investments, especially through the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and USAID. We have a huge potential for the implementation of joint projects in the spheres of green economy, creative industry and information technology,” the deputy speaker emphasized, stressing the importance of attracting direct investment to Kyrgyzstan.
Lesslie Viguerie noted that several large American companies operate in Kyrgyzstan, expressing their interest in developing cooperation in the areas of information technology, construction of hydroelectric power plants and agriculture.
Nurbek Sydygaliev drew the ambassador’s attention to the issue of extending Kyrgyzstan's status in the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP+). He also expressed gratitude to the American side for the decision made on a parity basis to extend the validity of visas to the United States to 10 years, suggesting to consider the possibility of extending the validity of student visas and adding Kyrgyzstan to the list of countries that can receive H-2 work visas.
In addition, given the number of Kyrgyz citizens traveling to the United States, the deputy speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament suggested considering opening a direct flight.
