Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan rev up bilateral cooperation

BISHKEK. August 23. KAZINFORM Both Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan stand ready to improve their ties by cooperating in more fields as a raft of documents were signed after Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev held talks with visiting President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Wednesday.

The documents involved changes to an agreement to set up a Kyrgyz-Kazakh investment fund, an agreement on coordination of frequency allocations, an agreement on cooperation in combating illicit drug trafficking and a cooperation program between the two countries' foreign ministries, said information from the Kyrgyz president's press office.

During their talks, both sides also discussed the joint implementation of a project to build a high-voltage transmission line between Almaty in Kazakhstan and Kemin in Kyrgyzstan, and the construction of a new hydropower plant. They agreed that Kazakhstan would provide Kyrgyzstan with 200,000 tonnes of grain this year, Xinhua reports.

Atambayev and Nazarbayev also signed a joint declaration to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
