Kyrgyz president congratulates Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Qurultay elections

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov, has congratulated the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the brotherly Kazakh people on the successful elections to the Qurultay, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the Kyrgyz president's press service.

"I firmly believe that the Qurultay, created through the free will of the people, will play an important role in strengthening the statehood of the Republic of Kazakhstan, enhancing its legal and socio-political institutions, and ensuring the country's sustainable socioeconomic development. I note with satisfaction that the consistent reforms carried out under your leadership serve the long-term interests of the state, the raising of the people's well-being, and the country's continued prosperity," the congratulatory message reads.

The Kyrgyz president expressed hope that the strategic partnership and allied relations between the two countries will continue to strengthen, filled with new content for the benefit of both nations and in the interests of peace, stability, and development across Central Asia.

"I wish you splendid health, well-being, and success in your state duties, and the brotherly people of Kazakhstan peace and prosperity," Sadyr Zhaparov said.

As reported earlier, voting in the elections to the Qurultay has concluded in Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan's first-ever elections for deputies of the country's new unicameral Qurultay were held on August 23. Polling stations opened across the country, with voting until 8:00 p.m.

Kazakhstanis were voting for one of seven political parties participating in the elections. Following the vote, seats in the Qurultay will be distributed among the parties that surpass the legally established threshold.

Voters were to elect 145 deputies for a five-year term. More than 12.6 million citizens were registered to vote.
