Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry prepares Protest Note to Tajikistan in connection with border incident

BISHKEK. January 12. KAZINFORM - At the emergency meeting held on Saturday in Bishkek, PM of Kyrgyzstan Jantoro Satybaldiyev has instructed Foreign Affairs Ministry to prepare a protest note to the Tajik side in connection with a shootout on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

In addition, the Prime Minister has instructed the Kyrgyz State Border Service and force authorities to switch to robust security regime. Batken region local authorities were entrusted to carry out extensive outreach work among population aimed at preserving public order and preventing conflicts.

It bears to remind that on January 11 near the village of Ak-Sai of Batken region verbal altercation occurred between a group of Tajik special forces and border troops of Kyrgyzstan. The parties used firearms. As a result, five Kyrgyz and six Tajik guards suffered wounds.
