Kelimbetov reiterates Kazakhstan's commitment to space agreements with Russia
ASTANA. February 13. KAZINFORM Kazakh Vice Prime Minister Kairat Kelimbetov spoke about the interaction of Kazakhstan and Russia in space field at the enlarged board meeting of the Kazakh National Space Agency.
In particular, Kairat Kelimbetov noted that when defending the national interests it is necessary to respect strategic partners and do not forget about previous agreements.
"Concerning Baikonur launch site usage, I want to officially confirm Kazakhstan's unconditional commitment to the agreements on Baikonur lease extension till 2050, that have been signed by the leaders of Kazakhstan and Russia in 2004.
Kazakhstan and Russia are allies and strategic partners, especially in the space industry, and all possible questions will be discussed in due course in the framework of the intergovernmental commission.
In particular, the Deputy Prime Minister noted the issues on reduction of launches with highly toxic fuels that are harmful to the environment in Kazakhstan arise.
"In accordance with the agreement, the Russian side is pledged to reduce launches of "Proton" rockets, negatively affecting the environment of Kazakhstan. In addition it should be mentioned that our task is to defend Kazakhstan's national interests, respecting the interests and agreements with strategic partners," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
