Kazakhstan and China has expended logistics ties by launching a large transport and logistics center in Xi'an, linking Chinese Shaanxi with Kazakhstan, Central Asia and Europe. The terminal strengthened Kazakhstan’s efforts to become the Eurasian transit hub, since Kazakh exporters have now gained access to new markets. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated in the opening ceremony in Astana via videoconference. In his speech, the Head of State noted that the construction of the facility had been preceded by an agreement and successful cooperation between the two nations earlier in 2023.
Xi'an happens to be China's transit center and the largest dry port, the location where 40 percent of container trains to Europe is being formed. From now on the volume can be easily increased. The annual capacity of the newly opened Kazakhstan's terminal is expected to reach 66.5 thousand containers per year.
