Kazakhstan's Shevchenko upset in 1st match at United Cup in Australia

Kazakhstan's national team got off to a bad start against Spain at the United Cup, a mixed team tournament in Sydney and Perth, Australia, Kazinform News Agency cites Sports.kz.

Kazakhstan's Alexander Shevchenko (ranked 78th) and Pablo Carreno Busta (ranked 196th) of Spain were the first tennis players, who stepped onto the court. Pablo Carreno Busta defeated the Kazakhstani athlete scoring 6:2, 6:1 in two sets. The match lasted for one hour and four minutes.

Recall that Kazakhstan got into Group C along with Spain and Greece. Team Kazakhstan includes Elena Rybakina, Zhibek Kulambayeva, Alexander Shevchenko, Dmitry Popko and captain Aleksandr Nedovyesov.

The Kazakh national team marks its second participation in the United Cup. The team's first participation took place in 2023, marking the inaugural edition of the tournament for Kazakhstan.

As earlier reported, a lineup of athletes of the main events at the Australian Open 2025 in the men's doubles had been revealed.
