Kazakhstan's Putintseva upset by Czech tennis player at BNP Paribas Open

World No. 20 Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan played her first match in the women's singles event at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, USA, Kazinform News Agency cites Sports.kz.

Putintseva began her tournament in the second round, where she faced Czech Katerina Siniakova (ranked 59th). Despite being the favorite, the Kazakhstani lost to Siniakova in two sets — 2-6, 2-6. Siniakova will play against world No. 15 Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in the next round.

It’s worth mentioning that Yulia Putintseva is Kazakhstan's second-highest-ranked singles player after Elena Rybakina (ranked 7th).

This year tournament’s money prize stands at $8,963,700. The winner will earn $1,124,380, and 1,000 ranking points.

As reported earlier, paired with Denmark's Clara Tauson, world No. 20 Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan have defeated Japanese Makoto Ninomiya and Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo in their first match of the women's doubles event at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, USA.
