Kazakhstan’s Putintseva out of $9mln tournament

Paired with Denmark's Clara Tauson, world No. 20 Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan was upset propelling to the women's doubles quarterfinals at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, USA, Kazinform News Agency cites Sports.kz.

In the Round of 16, the Kazakh-Danish duo faced the duo of Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko and Australia’s Ellen Perez, losing in two sets with a score of 6-7, 4-6. The match lasted one hour and thirty three minutes. It’s worth noting that Ostapenko and Perez were seeded fourth in the doubles draw.

Thus, Putintseva wrapped up her participation in the Indian Wells tournament.

This year tournament’s money prize stands at $8,963,700. The winning duo will earn $457,150 each, and 1,000 ranking points.

Earlier, the Kazakhstani tennis player suffered a crushing defeat in the singles event against Czech Katerina Siniakova (ranked 59th). Despite being the favorite, the Kazakhstani lost to Siniakova in two sets — 2-6, 2-6.
