Kazakhstan's oil supplies via Druzhba pipeline not disrupted after leak in Poland

An oil leak on the Druzhba pipeline in Poland did not affect the supply of Kazakh oil. According to the Kazakh Ministry of Energy, the leak occurred on a damaged line, after which the pumping of oil was quickly suspended, Kazinform News Agency reports.

“On December 1, 2024, an oil leak was discovered in the western section of the Druzhba system, which is supplied to the Schwedt oil refinery, near the city of Pniewy. Pumping along the damaged line was stopped. Oil supplies continued along the second line. The technical capabilities of the second line fully ensure oil pumping,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry specified that “based on the results of November 2024, the supply of Kazakh oil in this direction was fully carried out according to schedule.” It also stated that “the planned supply for December of this year in this direction is expected between December 20 and December 30, 2024.”

Previously, Kainform News Agency reported that PERN, a Polish company that provides services for the oil infrastructure, is taking measures to resolve the situation. The cause of the leak has not yet been determined, however, the possibility of a fire or explosion has been ruled out and there is no danger to the residents.

Kazakhstan transmits oil through Russia via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium to Novorossiysk. Supplies to Germany via the northern line of Druzhba began in February 2023 with a capacity of 2 million barrels per day.
