Kazakhstanis vote in Brussels and London as Qurultay elections continue abroad
Polling station No. 405 opened at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Brussels today as part of the Qurultay elections, Qazinform News Agency reports.
The station expects to receive around 100 citizens residing in Belgium and Luxembourg, including diplomats and their families, accredited journalists at European institutions, representatives of creative, academic communities, and business communities, as well as students.
The polling station began operating at 7:00 am CET. Symbolically, the first voters marked the occasion with the traditional shashu ritual - scattering sweets - to signify joy, good wishes, prosperity, and the importance of the event for the entire country.
Voting in Brussels will continue until 20:00 CET. Citizens of Kazakhstan permanently or temporarily residing in Belgium and Luxembourg may cast their ballots at Avenue Van Bever 30, Uccle, Brussels.
Earlier today, at 7:00 London time, polling station No. 408 opened at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the UK. Eligible voters include adult citizens of Kazakhstan residing or temporarily staying in the UK, Northern Ireland, Ireland, and Iceland.
Polling station No. 408 is located in central London at 125 Pall Mall. To receive a ballot, voters must present valid ID document confirming Kazakh citizenship.
Voting in London will continue until 20:00 local time (00:00 Astana time). After ballots are counted, the results will be submitted to the Central Election Commission.
Earlier, it was reported that 79 polling stations are operating abroad at Kazakhstan's diplomatic missions in 61 countries. Polling stations in Japan and South Korea were among those that opened at 3:00 a.m. Astana time.
The last polling station to open will be the one at the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in San Francisco, which will open at 7:00 p.m. Astana time.
