Kazakhstanis turn to online libraries: 3.6 mln views recorded

The Kazakh National Digital Library has seen remarkable growth in 2026, with over 3.6 million views registered since the beginning of the year, Qazinform News Agency cites the Culture and Information Ministry.

On May 16, the Head of State signed a decree On measures to develop reading culture and a reading nation. It aims at developing human capital, strengthening the intellectual potential of the society and raising people’s interest in reading.

One of the key instruments for access to the national written legacy is the Kazakh National Digital Library. It features books, rare documents, manuscripts, periodicals, dissertations, archival materials, audio and video files, maps and other digital resources.

The number of remote users reached 295,116 and downloads hit 891,551 electronic copies.

New 2,506 electronic copies were added, 437 documents were processed and 127,555 pages were scanned.

The library’s total collection stands at 86,315 documents, including over 10,000 digitized manuscripts and rare books.

Readers from over 122 countries accessed the library so far, with the most active users from Kazakhstan, China, Russia, the USA, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Turkiye, Germany, France, and Kyrgyzstan.

All the materials are available in 70 languages without any registration.

The library features Books from state programs, Rare documents and manuscripts, the Library of Turkic-speaking countries collections and others.

The National Digital Library Platform integrates catalogs, collections, educational resources, and modern services and ensures access to literature, scientific works, rare books, and archives regardless of location.

Qazinform earlier reported, leading Kazakh publishing houses showcased national literature in Beijing at the Kazakhstan Cultural Center in China.
