Kazakhstanis proud of President Nazarbayev's GIFA award
ASTANA. KAZINFORM - People of Kazakhstan are proud that President Nursultan Nazarbayev has become the recipient of the Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA), says imam of the Sheikh Kunta Khadji mosque and member of the People's Assembly of Kazakhstan Yakhiyakhadji Ismailov.
"We are delighted that the Head of State has received such prestigious award. This is good news for all people of Kazakhstan," Ismailov said in an interview to Kazinform correspondent. He reminded that Kazakhstan was the first country in the post-Soviet space to introduce Islamic finance. "The Islamic bank opened its office in Almaty in 1997. In 2009, Kazakhstan adopted a special law giving green light to Islamic financing in the country," he added. NOTE: President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev received the Global Islamic Finance Award at the 10th World Islamic Economic Forum in Dubai on Tuesday (October 28).
