Kazakhstan, U.S.A. reached agreements on meeting of N. Nazarbayev and B. Obama in Washington in April
HINGTON. February 5. KAZINFORM /Bela Kudaibergenova/ Kazakhstan and the U.S.A. intend to raise their strategic partnership to a higher level, Secretaries of State Kanat Saudabayev and Hillary Clinton announced it at a meeting yesterday.
During the last two days K. Saudabayev had meetings with the representatives of legislative and executive power of America as well as with leading businessmen and experts. Among them is a meeting in Washington's Atlantic Council at which K. Saudabayev familiarized the attendees with the current socio-political situation in the republic, the priorities and agenda of chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the OSCE.
At the meeting with Minister of Energy of the U.S.A. the parties focused on bilateral cooperation in energy sphere. In particular, the parties agreed on expansion of cooperation in nuclear energy development. In the last years the U.S.A. is actively involved in building nuclear power plants. Last year the country spent USD 18.5 bln for their construction. This year the funds for this aim grew twofold. In this view Kazakhstan as the leader in production and export of uranium fuel represents great interest for the American energy experts, the U.S. Minister said.
The meeting with Secretary of State of the U.S.A. Hillary Clinton was undoubtedly important and fruitful. Following the meeting the parties stated that America was ready to expand bilateral cooperation in all directions.
"I am pleased very much to welcome Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the country which is of strategic importance for the U.S.A. Year by year the relations between our countries become closer", H. Clinton noted.
"We have started negotiations on preparation of the Kazakh President N. Nazarbayev's visit to the U.S.A., his meeting with B. Obama which is expected to open a new page in the Kazakh-U.S. relations, K. Saudabayev said in turn.
Following the meetings in Washington Kazakhstan and the U.S.A. reached principal agreements on the meeting of N. Nazarbayev and B. Obama. Besides, America supported N. Nazarbayev's initiative to hold the OSCE Leaders' Summit in Astana.
