Kazakhstan to plant 13 mln hectares of wheat in 2013
ASTANA. April 2. KAZINFORM In 2013, 15.9 million hectares of grain, of which 13 million hectares under wheat, will be planted in Kazakhstan, Agriculture Minister Assylzhan Mamytbekov stated at a meeting of the Government on Tuesday.
"The total spring sowing area is 18.6 million hectares," Mamytbekov said.
According to preliminary data from the regions, in 2013 it is planned to plant 21.4 million hectares of crops, which is almost at the level of 2012.
However, he said that under the memorandum of diversification of crop acreage for 2012-2016 it is expected to reduce the area under wheat to the level of 2012 by 468 thousand hectares, area under rice by 5,500 hectares.
"At that, the area under maize will increase by 5,600 hectares, other crops by 76,800 hectares. Oilseeds area will reach 1.9 million hectares, which is 43 100 hectares more than last year, forage crops - 3.1 million hectares," the Minister added.
